1          TheMaritimeSafetyCommittee,atitsseventy-ninthsession(1to10 December2004), followingtherecommendationsmadebytheSub-CommitteeonShipDesignandEquipment,atits forty-seventh  session,  approved  an  interpretation  to  paragraph 2.2.3  (Viewports  in  passenger submersiblecraft)oftheGuidelinesfordesign,constructionandoperationofpassengersubmersible craft,setoutintheannex,withaviewtoensuringauniformapproachtowardstheapplicationofthe above Guidelines.

 

2          MemberGovernmentsareinvitedtousetheannexedinterpretationwhenapplyingrelevant provisionsoftheGuidelinesfordesign,constructionandoperationofpassengersubmersiblecraft, and to bring it to the attention of all parties concerned.

UNIFIEDINTERPRETATIONTOTHEGUIDELINESFORDESIGN,CONSTRUCTION ANDOPERATIONOFPASSENGERSUBMERSIBLECRAFT

 

 

 

Paragraph 2.2.3 - Viewports in passenger submersible craft

 

 

 

Acrylicviewportsshouldbedesigned,fabricatedandmaintainedinaccordancewiththe requirementsofthelatesteditionoftheAmericanSocietyofMechanicalEngineersSafetyStandard forPressureVesselsforHumanOccupancy(ASMEPVHO),Section2,ViewportsandSection3, Window  Fabricators. Other  standards  and  materials  may  be  accepted  by  the  Administration, provided  they  achieve  an  equivalent  level  of  safety  with  respect  to  design,  fabrication  and maintenance.
