Revised Guidelines and specificationsfor pollution prevention equipment for machinery space bilges of ships
1 MEPC 49 (July 2003) adopted the revised Guidelines and specifications for pollution preventionequipmentformachineryspacebilgesofshipsbyresolutionMEPC.107(49),which supersedestherecommendationscontainedinresolutionMEPC.60(33).Governmentsareinvitedto implement the revised Guidelines from1 January 2005.
2 Following a proposal for clarification on the applicability of the revised Guidelines, MEPC 52(October2004)agreedtothefollowinginterpretationofparagraphs1.3.1.1and1.3.1.2of
the revised Guidelines (MEPC 52/24, paragraph 6.13):
.1 underparagraph1.3.1.1oftherevisedGuidelines,installationsfittedonorafter
1 January2005toshipswhosekeelswerelaidbeforethatdate,NEEDNOTmeet the revised Guidelines; and
.2 underparagraph1.3.1.2oftherevisedGuidelines, “new”installationsshouldbe interpreted as “replacement” installations and “fitted” should be interpreted as “ordered” on or after 1 January 2005, to ships whose keels were laid before
1 January 2005.
