784(19) Amendments to the International Convention on Load Lines, 1966

THE ASSEMBLY,

RECALLING Article 15(j) of the Convention on the International Maritime Organization concerning the functions of the Assembly in relation to regulations and guidelines concerning maritime safety,

NOTING proposals submitted by the Government of Australia, in accordance with article 29(3) of the 1966 Load Line Convention, for amending regulation 49(7)(b) of the International Convention on Load Lines (LL), 1966, concerning the southern tropical zone off the coast of Australia and supporting meterological background information,

NOTING ALSO that the Maritime Safety Committee, at its sixty- second session, adopted the proposed amendments in accordance with article 29(3)(a) of the 1966 Load Line Convention,

HAVING CONSIDERED the proposed amendments to LL regulation 49(7)(b) and to the chart of zones and seasonal areas,

1. ADOPTS, in accordance with article 29(3)(b) of the International Convention on Load Lines, 1966, the amendments to regulation 49(7)(b) of the said Convention set out in the annex to the present resolution, together with consequential changes to the chart of zones and seasonal areas;

2. REQUESTS the Secretary-General, in accordance with article 29(3)(b) of the 1966 Load Line Convention, to transmit certified copies of the present resolution and its Annex to all Contracting Governments to the 1966 Load Line convention, for consideration and acceptance, and also to transmit copies to all Members of the Organization;

3. URGES all Governments concerned to accept the amendments at the earliest possible date.

Regulation 49(7)(b)

Replace "on the south by the Tropic of Capricorn from the east coast of Australia" by "on the south by the parallel of latitude of 24 degrees S from the east coast of Australia to longitude 154 degrees E, thence by the meridian of longitude 154 degrees E to the Tropic of Capricorn thence by the Tropic of Capricorn".

Chart of zones and seasonal areas

The southern border line of the seasonal tropical area on the Tropic of Capricorn is deleted between the east coast of Australia and 154°E. In its place, a line is inserted along the meridian of longitude 154°E south from the Tropic of Capricorn to 24°S, thence westward along the 24° S parallel of latitude from 154°E to the coast of Australia.
