Statement by the Government of the Netherlands

The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization has the honour to transmit herewith the text of a statement by the Government of the Netherlands on equipment arrangements accepted under regulation I/5 of the above Convention.

The Secretary-General would be grateful if steps could be taken to bring this information to the attention of the appropriate authorities.

Statement by the Government of the Netherlands

  1. Regulation V/20 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) requires the carriage of adequate and up to date charts on all ships.

  • It is the view of the Netherlands that the British Admiralty Raster Chart Server electronic chart system, together with a Raster Chart Display System is suitable for displaying chart information and fully covers the requirement concerning charts laid down in SOLAS regulation V/20.

  • For back-up purposes, a second Raster Chart Display system connected to the main, emergency and a reserve source of power has to be provided. Furthermore, all ships so equipped shall carry a limited amount of paper charts enabling them to safely reach a port within their trading area.

  • Updating of chart information, if necessary, has to take place at the same interval presently provided through British Admiralty Notices to Mariners.

  • In view of the above, the Netherlands gives notification that the following ships have been allowed to be equipped as stated above:

      1. Dutch Spirit, Callsign: PDTO
      2. Dutch Faith, Callsign: PDTM
      3. Stella Wega, under construction
