Statement by the Government of the Netherlands

The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization has the honour to transmit herewith the text of a statement by the Government of the Netherlands on equivalent arrangements accepted under regulation I/5 of the above Convention.

The Secretary-General would be grateful if steps could be taken to bring this information to the attention of the appropriate authorities.

STATEMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT OF THE NETHERLANDS
  1. Regulation V/20 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) requires the carriage of adequate and up to date charts on all ships.

  • It is the view of the Netherlands that the British Admiralty Raster Chart Service electronic chart system, together with a Chart Display System (Dual Fuel) is suitable for displaying chart information and fully covers the requirement concerning charts laid down in SOLAS regulation V/20

  • For back-up purposes, a second Dual Fuel Chart Display System connected to the main, emergency and a reserve source of power (one hour UPS) has to be provided. Furthermore, a limited amount of up to date paper charts, enabling the vessel to safely reach a port within the trading area, shall be provided.

  • Updating of chart information has to take place at the same interval as presently provided by means of the British Admiralty Notices to Mariners.

  • In view of the above, the Netherlands gives notifications that the following ship has been granted permission to be equipped as stated above:

    MV Varnebank - PBAH
