Samenvatting

Roads to the Future is a Rijkswaterstaat innovation programme. With an eye to the future, it provides incentives to find answers to the accessibility probles of the Dutch economic centres. This is done in consultation and co-operation with external partners, such as special-interests organisations, experts and road users. Roads to the Future has been developing (in 1999 and 2000) challenging long-term perspectives, solid test projects and demonstrations concerning four innovative themes: Virtual Mobility, Road Surface of the Future, Road Architecture 2030 and Flexible Infrastructure. The programme links long-term thinking to short-term action. The Modular Road Surface Pilot Project described in this brochure is intended for the short term as the first tangible step towards a modular road surface. In this project, the aim is to develop to a modular road surface that can be prefabricated, meets the technical requirements stated in this brochure and includes a noise reduction function only.
