Samenvatting

The research programme 'RIACON' was started to evaluate the risk of shoreface nourishment and subaquous sand extraction for the benthic community in marine coastal waters. In the Netherlands the RIACON project concentrates on a nourishment site off the island of Terschelling. This report gives the results of a macrofauna survey made in October 1994, one year after the nourishment had been completed. The benthic community is described in terms of species diversity, numerical density of species and biomass of major taxa. Both the nourishment and an adjacent reference area were investigated. Statistical comparisons are made with data from a post-nourishment survey made in April 1995.
